Hi! I'm Ryan,
Welcome to Spokane Bass Lessons! Happy you're here!
My name is Ryan McClelland and I’m thrilled to be teaching bass guitar lessons right here in Spokane and Spokane Valley. I’ve played bass guitar as my main instrument for nearly two decades and continue to pursue my craft. As a bass player, husband, father, pet owner and jeeper, I enjoy what I do and am very thankful for all of my gifts, talents, friends and family. All of these life details help continue to stoke the fire and passion I have for music.
I’m a student of the Bass Institute of Technology at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood California and also their Recording program way back in 2001. The same year the iPod was invented…..a long time ago. =) Also musical training from the Metropolitan State College of Denver shortly after M.I.
Born and raised in Colorado, I’ve had the privilege of playing in a variety of music settings from the garage bands and originals, to cover bands opening up for national acts with audiences of more than 10,000 people. Inspired by great bass masters like Wooten, Pino, Miller, Jaco, Claypool, Clark, Rocco, Carter, Sheehan, Manring and the new modern sounds of Martini, Stockton, Wellington, Baudin, Stinette and many more the opportunities of new playing never end. I can only hope to play like these geniuses of the low-end someday and continue to grow and carve out may path in the vast world of low frequencies.
My active projects as of now include worship bass playing, studio work for signed artists and bass education. I am also the owner and founder of Bass Matter, an online program that is available for free and serves thousands of bass players across the world with learning, teaching materials and three published ebooks. It is in fact the very same system I use to teach privately and in clinics. I love to teach bass and my complete bass education program works for all levels of players for all types of music at any age. With trackable progress metrics, affordable prices and custom tailored lessons for each student, enjoying and efficiently playing the bass is not only within grasp, but something that can happen very quickly. The old adage goes, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you’ll feed him for a life time.” My lessons first begin with a focus on teaching the student the self management and discovery processes for perpetual growth and learning where to go next, how to get there and how to understand the learning materials. I have found this method in my experience to be the most rewarding for the student as they can continue to grow even without direct one to one lessons very quickly only adding to the long term enjoyment of being a bassist.
In my bass lessons, not only do I teach bass and how to play, also music history, the role of the instruments, rhythm studies, theory, tab, sight reading, nashville numbers, modal studies, composition, harmonic analysis, tone management and how to find the most enjoyment out of being an artist by being musical first. So with that being said, let’s find a groove and get started! It’s an honor and a pleasure to have you here and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
